What Are the Best School Districts in Amarillo, TX? (2026 Ratings)

New homes near top-rated Amarillo school districts built by B&M Amarillo Homes

In the 2026 TEA accountability ratings, every Amarillo-area district earned a B, with Bushland ISD on top at 89, Canyon ISD at 87, and Amarillo ISD at 85. Zoom into individual high schools and the gaps show up: Bushland High scored a 95, Canyon High a 92, Randall a 90, and West Plains an 88. If you're buying a home around a strong school, those four zones are where most Amarillo families look first.

Schools decide where families buy more than almost anything else, so it's worth knowing the real numbers before you settle on a neighborhood. Here's how the districts and high schools compare this year, and where you can still buy or build a new home in each one.

How Amarillo districts rate in 2026

Texas grades districts and schools A to F on a 0 to 100 scale, and the latest TEA accountability ratings came out in 2026. All three main Amarillo-area districts landed a B: Bushland ISD at 89, Canyon ISD at 87, and Amarillo ISD at 85. Bushland missed an A by a single point.

Rankings line up with that. Niche puts Canyon ISD at number one among Amarillo-area districts for 2026, with Bushland in the top three. And while Amarillo ISD sat at a B overall, each of its high schools earned an A, including Amarillo High at 93.

The four high schools home buyers ask about

We build across four school zones, and all four high schools rate well in 2026:

  • Bushland High scored a 95, the highest of the group, and anchors Bushland ISD on the west side of town.

  • Canyon High scored a 92, in the city of Canyon just south of Amarillo.

  • Randall High scored a 90 and covers southwest Amarillo as part of Canyon ISD.

  • West Plains High scored an 88, a newer Canyon ISD campus on the southwest side.

Which zone fits your family

The scores are close enough that lifestyle usually decides it. Bushland has the top rating and a smaller, more rural feel west of the city. The Canyon ISD side, Canyon High, Randall, and West Plains, covers the southwest suburbs where most of Amarillo's new construction is going up right now. If you'd rather stay in town near established neighborhoods, Amarillo ISD's high schools all earned A's, so you give up very little to be closer to the center.

There's no bad pick among them. It comes down to your commute, the kind of neighborhood you want, and what's for sale when you're ready to move.
